Enthalpic Determination of the Interaction of Modified Activated Carbons with Benzene and Hexane as Pure Solvents and Binary Mixtures

Three activated carbons with different physicochemical characteristics are prepared and their N2 isotherms at 77 K CO2 273 determined. The energetic interaction between three properties, two hydrocarbons as pure liquids binary mixtures concentrations, was characterized by determining the enthalpy of immersion, in order to evaluate effect adsorbents adsorbates, well that addition another adsorbate system. For solvents, immersion (ΔHi) is higher for aromatic compound (−94.98 −128.80 J g−1) than aliphatic (−16.36 −53.35 g−1); mixtures, values −36.39 −98.37 g−1, where increases solid subjected thermal treatment presented lowest content surface oxygenated groups, while parameter decreases presents chemical modification nitric acid, behavior evident solvents mixtures. Activated have a adsorption 3.43 3.79 mmol g−1.
